BENEFITING CHARITIES
The British Columbia Lions Society for Children with Disabilities
In 1947 a group of Lions felt there was a need for transportation for children with disabilities.
With their own vehicles they began the first transportation program for these children.
This idea developed into what we now know as the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities.
The Society has been a registered charitable organization since 1952. You may also know us as
the Easter Seal People. Under both names, our mandate is to support children with disabilities
throughout British Columbia. The Society provides specialized programs and services to help
children to develop to their full potential.
Our services include:
- Three Easter Seal Camps
- Squamish, Shawnigan & Winfield
- Three Easter Seal Houses
- Vancouver, Victoria & Prince George
- Easter Seal Buses
- Patient Care Grants
- Vancouver Hospital Helipad
- Lions Laser Skin Care Centre at Vancouver Hospital
The proceeds from 'Orcas in the City' will benefit the Society's Easter Seal camps and houses.
The Camps are specially designed to encourage children with disabilities to gain new skills, develop
new friendships, gain confidence and independence. The Houses provide out-of-town families with
affordable accommodation close to the hospital while their children undergo medical treatment.
